Engines and performance
Many compact crossover SUVs can be comfortable and accommodating for the passengers, but there aren’t too many that emphasize the driving experience in the way a used Mazda CX-5 does. Strong four-cylinder engines, automatic transmissions, and all-wheel-drive are the headline acts. Still, the sharp steering and slightly stiff suspension also play a significant role in making the CX-5 so rewarding to drive. We occasionally come across the odd front-drive example from time to time. Still, the overwhelming majority of used CX-5 models we get in our inventory have the extra capability of all-wheel-drive.
The CX-5 doesn’t claim to be the fastest SUV in its class, but it does offer a blend of comfort, engaging driving characteristics, and decent fuel economy ratings. Fuel economy ratings vary from just under 10 L/100 km combined for AWD turbocharged models to around 8.1 L/100 km combined with the most frugal versions of the Mazda.
